Translations for other languages

Hi Fritzing Community,

I encourage you to do translation using AI (I use ChatGPT and Deepseek) as it’s more accurate (at least for Chinese and Turkish)

Update here: Some languages are now automatically translated while reading posts. If you spot issues with the translation, please let us now.

If your langauge is supported and a post is translated, you should see a translation symbol in the top right:

Hans’s post didn’t get translated for me:

When I click the icon (circled in green here it renders) @RAPTOR7762 ‘s post in English for me (I assume it was already in English though.) Han’s post also rendered in German (before @RAPTOR7762 ‘s post) for me earlier this morning so it didn’t appear to translate the German for some reason even when there wasn’t a second post.

Peter

Test: I’m just writing something here in German

And this post is written in English

Y ahora intento confundir al sistema escribiendo en español, pero configurando el idioma a inglés

Except for your last one that worked for me. It looks to correctly translate the German to English, but for Han’s post it never seems to for me (although clicking the “ask AI” icon and selecting translate works.

The last one (in Spanish I think) is the same translated or displayed as the original, it doesn’t appear in English.

Peter

For the Spanish message, I checked what happens if I set the language of the post English.

So, this would be a way to confuse the system.

Ich schreibe mal eine Testnachricht in Deutsch, um zu sehen, wie das funktioniert.

And there is no way to pick the language:

Unless I am doing something wrong? I do not seem to have the globe symbol available, neither on the initial post nor on edit.

Ah, this seems intentional. Directly setting the language is only enabled for trusted users.

In your preferences, you can set the global langauge to your preferred one, that should also do the trick:

How do you access the preferences (I am assuming they are in the forum somewhere but don’t know where?) I would like to see if setting English as the language will translate more.

Peter

Maybe “Notifications and Account” menu (user icon), “Profile”, “Preferences”, “Interface” tab, “Interface language”

Thanks, I looked at that but missed preferences (which sticks out when I look now!) but it isn’t there but rather in Interfaces and unfortunately mine is set to english(US) rather than auto so that doesn’t seem to be why translate often doesn’t work for me.

Peter

Let’s try again, this post is in German.

Whilst this works, it is at least for small posts more convoluted than directly posting in both languages and success is seemingly not guaranteed.

I do not think, many posters, who speak at least some English, will be tempted to keep editing their settings all the time they want to post in a language that is not their mother tongue.

But it may well help others.

Why so complicated?
You just post in your language, the one your UI is set to. It will be translated for the reader, the one that the readers UI is set to. Done, no need to fiddle with it?

If you intentionally write in a different language, then you probably have a reason for that, and don’t want automatic translations?

I do have two languages and use both regularly.

The helpful part of the feature would be that when one posts in one language it would autotranslate for others. But it does not necessarily, see the problem that @vanepp has with some not translated messages. A simple flag of the language would solve the issue (the globe symbol not available for unexplained reasons).

As you have noted yourselves, switching back and forward otherwise is convoluted (“complicated”).
