Starting w/ Fritzing - looking for large items

I’m just starting w/ Fritzing, in hopes of it helping me w/ a few projects… I have two main uses in mind…

  1. ‘quick and dirty’ small projects and tasks like a breadboard test circuit layout or a larger “point-to-point” project. (If I want a PCB I’ll be firing up KiCAD)

  2. Wiring diagrams for larger pieces of equipment - i.e. powerchairs, vehicles, large machines, etc. Others have recommended Fritzing for this because of it’s ability to do colored wires that can (sort of) match a wiring harness color code… The pictures I’ve seen of this look like breadboard mode without the breadboard showing…

Especially for the second task I’d really like to have some ‘generic’ large parts like motors, linear actuators, power supplies and so on… My initial poking around I haven’t been able to find anything of this sort, any pointers as to where I can find them?

About me - I’m a maker, and member / volunteer of the Artisans Asylum hackerspace in Allston, MA. I am also a paraplegic wheelchair user who spends a good bit of time hacking on mobility equipment.

Thanks,
ex-Gooserider

Try a google search of the form “fritzing part part_name” such as “fritzing part linear actuator”. Assuming you don’t find a part online or in core parts post a request (filling in the template that is provided) in parts help and someone will probably make you a part.

Thanks for the tip, will do that, probably often at first…

If you are wise forever. It is the first thing that I do before making a part. Be aware part making is difficult and many parts on the net won’t work correctly. I have made 3 or 4 linear actuators for folks so that is why I used that example because I know it will hit.
