Optocoupler SMD parts (and changing existing parts)

Hi,
I’m trying to add the PC817 as SMD variant. I have succesfully created the SMD alternative and Fritzing recognizes it partially (it won’t give overlapping errors for the holes). However the holes are still present and exported to the production sketch.
I have set all holes to be pads, but cannot for the love of me get them to change.
I’m a newb, so there might be something I’m not doing correctly.

You would need a whole series of videos, but this is a quick one to show some tips. This is not a proper guide, just methods to do stuff. karlalhdz and vanepp motivated me to finally work out a screen recorder and put something together.

I ended up just creating it directly on the PCB with pads and a silk image.
