Using only one example for the point - I have found that I don’t need a specific part (2n2222) as much as I just need a TO-92 package. I already know from datasheets which pins go to what. I can use that “Mystery Part” for anything TO-92, and insert the info into the part# and description spaces. With device package parts, thousands of specific parts from FETs to sensors can be placed and labeled as anything you need, for instant parts.
I would ask other volunteers to mod their next part into a Mystery Part for the community. SMD package parts are becoming especially high-demand, but any will help, and each can slay 100s of dragons in one cut. Thanks for your efforts!
