How to modifiy a multimeter to display a value on the display panel (ie 9 volts )?

You need to use the text icon in Inspector for the view (here breadboard, but you can also do this in schematic or pcb the same way)
first select the text icon for the view and drag it in to the view
then in Inspector (the lower right window) set the text value you want.
then set the size you want also in Inspector and you are done.
If you are using the simulator I believe it will write the correct value in to the correct place as part of the simulation.
