I’m not sure if it’s a bug in 1.0.3, but when I place a generic IC, I can’t find a THT 16 pin variant. I always get a message that no such package with those characteristics exists!
Any advice?!

Huh! That’s very strange! While I don’t have fritzing 1.0.3, I have v1.0.4, which works. If I remember correctly it worked for v0.9.3b and v0.9.10
The only versions I have: v0.9.3b, v0.9.10, v1.0.4
I worked around it by copying a part from another sketch. The settings are DIP, 300mil spacing 16 pins and that one works. No idea why I can’t create a new one.
Works fine for me on 1.0.3 on Win10.
Likely your installation is corrupted. I would try reloading Fritzing.
Peter
It looks like it’s the sketch itself. I opened a new sketch and it works as expected. A bit strange since that sketch works fine in other respects (ie. the boards are in production). I did note that the parts database seems corrupt again. And I’ve forgotten what to do about it
Thanks for checking!
Reloading Fritzing will refresh the parts database if it is core parts that is corrupted. If it is you user parts then you need to clear the user directories. Can you upload the sketch that breaks (upload is 7th icon from the left in the reply menu?) I’d like to see if it breaks the same way for me. If it does I will report it as a bug since it shouldn’t (I don’t think!) be able to affect the parts factory which makes ICs.
Peter
Ok, this is the sketch it broke in.

I’m not sure I know what you mean by ‘Reloading’ The last version I bought was just an appImage, I believe? There is no installer as such (I’m on linux).
Then reload the appimage from the Fritzing site, if the parts database in core is corrupted the downloaded appimage should have a correct copy. If something local is corrupting it that is likely a bug. On Windows I haven’t seen such a problem so far.
Peter
That would require purchasing it again. And I’m not sure you can buy the older versions? I guess I could purchase the next version. But, then it’s not a test of this issue.
No it doesn’t. Your receipt from Fritzing for the donation includes a link which gives you access to the Fritzing site for (I think!) around 1 year to redownload images and acquire new versions so you should be able to obtain 1.0.4 (which is a good idea!) by using that link. My link looks like this (the xx s are letters and numbers though!)
https://fritzing.org/releases?dlid=xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
older Fritzing version back to 0.9.2b I think, are available on the download page as well. For me on Fritzing 1.0.4 on Win10 your sketch works fine, the generic IC loads as expected without problems, so I expect something has corrupted your appimage load (or possibly is corrupting the parts factory code somehow although that is the idea of the appimage I believe, all the required libraries are there so this shouldn’t happen!)
and installing a new appimage will likely fix the problem. If not you should file a bug report on github and see if the developers can suggest anything. It may be a configuration issue on your machine (odd hardware tickling a bug perhaps) because the failure is odd. As well I always keep a backed up copy of every installer or appimage I download outside of Fritzing so even if the Fritzing site should go away for some reason I have copies of the installer if Fritzing becomes corrupted.
Peter
I don’t have any such links? In fact, I can’t find any mails related to the sales! And, no, not in spam and yes, I’ve checked all mail accounts. That’s a bit odd. I’ve purchased at least 3 times. Hmm. Ok, Is the sender you got the mail from fritzing.org?
In any case, opening new files it just works, too. So it must be the sketch. I’ll keep tooling about. Thanks for your feedback.
I think so, but I kept the link not the email. It is not in the paypal receipt (assuming you used them), but rather in a an email acknowledging the donation (I think!) from fritzing.org which contains the download link. You could also check with support and see if they can resend you the link if you don’t have it (I don’t know it that is possible, I expect it is automatically generated!)
edit:
Maybe a search through your mail for " fritzing.org/releases?dlid=
" which should find the link?
Peter
Ah, well. I can’t find any such links anywhere. Maybe I made the purchase without being logged in? Ah, well. With new sketches it works and my workaround was fine so I’ll just upgrade and pay a bit more to fritzing. I make a lot of stuff with it, so, why not!
Thanks for your help!
I just upgraded and got the thank you with the link. I wonder what I did with the other mails. I administer several mail servers and never throw mail away. Ah, always a first time?!?
