I’m a soil physicist specialising in the physical properties which underlie our ability to detect objects buried in the soil, as well as variations in the soil itself.
Most of my work is in soil physical research and teaching but I am frequently called on to use geophysical methods to locate forensic evidence, most often the clandestine graves of murder victims.
I have an especial interest in the use of geophysics to identify mass graves which result from war crimes. Much of my work is in carrying out research into the fundamental physical properties of such crime scenes to help in their investigation.
