I have spent a considerable amount of time looking for a simple 3 pin switch, like the S1, with the pins bent 90 degrees so that the switch can lay flat on the PCB. If I missed something or this is an easy fix, please let me know. The help is much appreciated!
We would need a data sheet for the switch to do much of anything. A google search of the form “fritzing part 90 degree 3 pin switch” should turn up any existing parts (as would a similar search with the part number of the actual switch you want to use) although nothing obvious shows up. In general switches are all different and thus need a pcb footprint that matches their pins which means a custom part. Which requires a data sheet that specifies the physical dimensions, pcb layout and connector information for the switch. There is a template in the parts help category which asks for this (usually with poor results though from the parts makers point of view.)
